With Father’s Day fast approaching, we thought we’d take some time to honour one of our most successful father and son Social Marketer teams ever: – Laurie and Colin Thomsen.
Having been a highly successful Financial Planner through the boom of the late 70s and 80s, Laurie Thomsen, like many other hard working, white collar men of that era were putting in extraordinarily long hours at the office chasing the almighty dollar in a bid to set his family up for the future.
This was an all too familiar story to the generations x and y. “Where’s Dad?” were two words too often said around the lonely dinner table. With a sense of both guilt and determination, Laurie decided to actually do something about it, and so began his exit from ‘the grind’ and entry into the world of Direct Selling, and dictating his own work hours. Let’s just say – Papa’s got a brand new bag!
Having had a major hand in helping to launch the legacy company in 1989, Laurie used his people skills and sharp business nous to form the beginnings of a business that would go on to become an extremely rewarding and fruitful lifestyle for the Thomsens for many years to come. In fact, Laurie’s son, Colin entered the business as soon as he was able. Now both Laurie and Colin enjoy the flexibility of being able to set their own diaries and enjoy each other’s company at the same time. In fact, both men feel they’ve never felt closer as father and son.
“Dad and I are very lucky to have the relationship we’ve got, not many other families can say they love working together, but we genuinely can, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. That’s the beauty of this business.” says Colin.
As their business enters its 28th year and with both men showing no signs of slowing down, it almost gives a new meaning to the term ‘family business’, for as a Modere Social Marketer you no longer have to sacrifice one for the other, you can indeed have the very best of both worlds.
At 37 years of age and now with a family of his own including a beautiful partner and two great sons, the world as a Modere Social Marketer is now more than ever Colin’s oyster, and as for his two boys, well let’s just say they’ve got a pretty inspiring up-line!
